    Kiddy designed and delivered a development programme for Merlin’s senior executive team to help them run a larger, global business.

  • Client Needs

    Kiddy were asked by Merlin’s CEO to assist in the improvement in performance of the Board of the UK business.

    The perception of the CEO was that whilst the Board was performing to a high standard, there existed the potential to drive themselves to a new level.

    Merlin Entertainments is the highly successful visitor attractions operator which delivered double digit EBITDA growth every year from 2000-2009. The Group comprises UK attractions such as London Eye, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, and international brands such as Legoland and Madame Tussauds and SeaLife Centres.

    In light of that growth, Merlin’s Group HR Director and CEO decided they needed to put in place development plans for their Executive Team.

  • Our Approach

    Kiddy put in place a one year development programme for each of the senior executives.

    This started with a Kiddy diagnostic assessment using one of our benchmarked simulations – this involves the individual operating for a day in a simulated business environment during which they are required to conduct a strategic review of a business, hold meetings with a direct report and external stakeholder. Additionally, they had a career interview and completed psychometric tests to provide additional insights.


The outcome of this was a diagnostic development report, and an executive profile benchmarked against leading global organisations.

Following a feedback process with the individual a development plan was agreed. Kiddy then worked with the individual over thecourse of the year to review progress, provide support and focus the individuals on achieving the agreed outcomes.

The result has been that Merlin’s senior executives, many of whom had been in the business for some time, have made significant shifts in both performance and capability.
