Morgan Stanley
Interview Skills Training
Summary
Morgan Stanley (MS) receives a high number of job applications and had an approach to interviewing that encouraged multiple interviews which meant it was difficult for interviewers to get the information they needed to make effective decisions. It was felt the interviews could be more rigorous.
Kiddy was hired to run a series of interview skills workshops for over 100 senior leaders at MS to improve their interviewing technique, as well as to embed a new interviewing approach within the firm.
Client need
MS needed to embed a new interviewing approach within the Managing Director (MD) and Executive Director (ED) population, so that each interviewer focused on key criteria in depth rather than trying to cover everything in 30 minutes. MS was also keen to ensure a consistency of approach.
It has been one of the highest rated courses delivered within Morgan Stanley in the past year
Our Approach
Our approach was to embed a new approach through behavioural change. We ran a series of interviewing skills sessions which combined sharing practical advice on how to improve interviews with an opportunity to practice interviewing in pairs with a MS analyst. We videotaped each interview to allow delegates the opportunity to watch it again after the session, with feedback given by the Kiddy consultant immediately after the interview to embed learning.
Results
Over 100 MDs and EDs have been through the process, and it has been one of the highest rated courses delivered in the past year. We have also delivered follow-up skills practice sessions for a number of the delegates.
We have received feedback from individuals several months after attending the workshop telling us that they are now able to make better hiring decisions, and they are wasting less time as they are able to focus on the individual’s past experience much more quickly and easily.
We are also aware of cases where individuals have been hired who would otherwise have been rejected by delegates before attending the course, who have subsequently turned out to be star performers.
