Summary

A high-impact learning experience that gave Infineum the information it needed about its leadership pipeline.

Client Need

Infineum is a world-class formulator, manufacturer and marketer of petroleum additives and it had identified a pool of high-potentials, but they did not have enough information about individuals’ strengths within that pool.  Infineum wanted a high-impact learning experience that would both give the organisation the information it needed about its leadership pipeline, and give individuals high quality feedback and support to put learning into practice.

Our Approach

We designed a two and a half day development centre.  The first half day is intended to help facilitate networking, as participants are often based in different regions of the world and do not know each other.

During the first full day of the development centre participants go through a challenging business simulation, designed to test their ability to deal with complex issues across the business.  Motivating direct reports, building client relationships and interpreting financial information all form part of a busy and pressurised day.
On the second day, participants receive brief feedback from the observers, as well as taking part in workshop activities with actors and receiving psychometric feedback.  The event concludes with development planning, incorporating peer coaching.

After the event, participants each receive a detailed development report, and a three-way feedback session is held with them and their line managers.  This ensures that development plans are realistic and supported by the business.  Three-month follow-ups further increase the probability of lasting development occurring, through maintaining momentum and keeping individuals focused on development.

Results

Participant feedback reports an increase in motivation to develop. Real development opportunities are provided for participants, informed by the knowledge gained on the development centre.  Furthermore, Infineum now has better information on which to make appointments.
